WATTBIKE ATOM wins if design award 2018
Sunday 11th March 2018
What started the movement of the turbo? Some of you might throw some different answers at us with some historical facts about how the Romans attached a circular block of stone with some rope and sat on a stool whilst pedalling in their robes and sandals. For us, when the word Wattbike was thrown around in conversation, our eyes lit up because it was all about the power and the wattage. There weren't much back in the day to rival Wattbike but times have changed and with the indoor cycling market booming with the emergence of Zwift, Wahoo and the like, the guys over wattage HQ have had to step up their game. They tend to split the rivals apart by showing the world the Atom, a sophisticated technical analytical cycling machine designed for one thing...performance. We had a little spin at the London Bike Show, the machine has literally popped out from the Hadron Collider!
Wattbike is a winner of this year’s iF DESIGN AWARD, a world-renowned design prize. The winning product, The Atom, won in the Sports / Outdoors / Bicycles category. Each year, the world’s oldest independent design organization, Hannover-based iF International Forum Design GmbH, organizes the iF DESIGN AWARD.
The Atom won over the 63-member jury, made up of independent experts from all over the world, as the smartest indoor bike on the planet. The competition was intense: over 6,400 entries were submitted from 54 countries in hopes of receiving the seal of quality.
Atom is an indoor training bike. It is unrivalled in its ergonomics and connectivity meaning that serious cyclists only have to worry about their performance. It provides an exceptionally smooth ride experience in a small footprint, the noise output is class leading, making it suitable for home use. Curventa led the creative process, unearthing key consumer insights and delivering a product that resonates with cyclists. There is no other product currently in the marketplace that has such a rich set of features creating a truly disruptive outcome that is geared entirely towards providing the ultimate bike like experience at home.
More information about The Atom can be found in the “Design Excellence” section of the iF WORLD DESIGN GUIDE.
