The Surrey Hills has many challenges, fitting them all in is one epic ride is the ultimate goal. For now, we will break them down into pairs or a 'menage a trois'!

NITP Ride Breakdown:

0-10miles: Starting from the historic and intimidating Twickenham Stadium, if you start your ride in the early weekend hours, you'll appreciate the quiteness of Twickenham and the woodland feel of Bushy Park. Literally a straight shot to Esher, this route will detour around Sandown Park to avoid any traffic.

Polka Dot Challenge: More Lane, Esher, 0.4km, 8% max

10-20miles: You're going mansion spotting again as you cruise through the wealthy roads of Oxshott and Cobham. Unfortunately, you will have to pass a certain training ground they who shall not be named! Cobham Rd we feel is the best back road into the Surrey Hills, a country lane with decent road surface leads you through Fetcham (warning, a small climb!). Once you hit the a246, bear right and follow the a246 but now the real climbing starts, Chapel Lane and then the steepest section on the route, Ranmore Common Road.

Polka Dot Challenge: Ranmore Common Road, 1.6km, 18% max

20-30miles: Grab your breath and possibly a beverage (usually a mobile van in the car park past the church), roll over Ranmore Common before you speed down our favourite descent in the area, Critten Lane/Beech Avenue. The sweeping corners allows you to throw the bike around whilst keeping solid on the bike throughout. You rejoin the a246 but a long slog awaits.

Polka Dot Challenge: Green Dene, East Horsley, 2.3km, 13% max

30-40miles: The climbing is basically over for this route so treat yourself to another rest stop at Allez Nutrition on top of Staple Lane, healthy snacks and a friendly shaggy dog to greet you! Descend down through East Clandon, past the jail, do not collect £200...wrong game! Traffic level is pratically zilch so enjoy the country lanes while you can as its about to come to an end!

TT Challenge: East Clandon- Cobham, 11.4km

40-50miles: Not our favourite road to return back on but Portsmouth Road is a straight shot into Esher and returning back to the 'ends'! Plenty of places to treat yourself (once again!) Esher, Hampton Court, Teddington, Twickenham take your pick!

Maillot Vert Challenge: Ember Lane, Thames Ditton, 0.7km
