Ribble Updates R872 For 2017

Tuesday 20th December 2016

Ribble Cycles’ best-selling racing model gets even more competitive with some impressive improvements in stiffness to weight.

Ribble’s R872 has remained their best-selling model since its launch 5 years ago.  Its lightweight frame, stealth colour and exceptional value proved a winner from day one.  While the 2017 R872 retains the proven geometry of the outgoing model, Ribble has successfully built on this platform by increasing stiffness in all areas.

To achieve this, the tubing and carbon fibre layup have undergone a redesign.  The R872 now uses both T1000 and T800 high modulus carbon fibre.  Overall stiffness improvements over the outgoing model are listed below:

Fork in-line (front/back) stiffness - Increased 16.4%

Fork lateral stiffness - Increased 26.5%

Frame head tube stiffness - Increased 8%

Frame BB stiffness - Increased 15.4%

Frame chain stay stiffness - Increased 14%

Up front, the R872 takes some influence from its aero sister, the Aero 883, adopting a similarly integrated downtube and fork crown.

For 2017, the R872 features a 27.2mm seatpost for improved comfort.  The sloping geometry naturally lends itself to running more seatpost than average which further allows for more flex from the seatpost while maintaining the stiffness at the heart of the frame.

Aesthetically, the new R872 features a new matt silver colourway, giving a second colour choice over the classic stealthy matt black.  Internal, Di2 ready, cable routing helps maintain the clean looks of this race ready machine.

The Ribble R872 is available to buy and customise online now via BikeBuilder with prices starting from £1,099.  Ribble’s recommended spec will retail at £1,684 including full Shimano Ultegra, Fulcrum Racing Sport Wheelset and Deda Zero 2 Finishing Kit.
